silly little songs happen throughout the entire game! I've died a lot, but it's a cute little game I'm enjoying. This one (courtesy of Andy) amused me because the trailer on Steam had a silly little song, and then I played the game and it turns out. Not CCGs (although I've played a few of those as well), but little games that give your character a deck you build up along the way which gains in power.

I dunno what it is about little card-based videogames that so captivate me, but I love them. The battles are satisfyingly strategic, and the whole experience is wrapped in a nice pencil-sketch art style and dungeon crawling theme. This games reminds me most closely of a simplified Magic the Gathering, in the sense that it is a card-based combat game where the key mechanic is managing a hand to find cards the both counter your opponent's attacks while making successful attacks of your own. So far a LOT of content has been added: by my count, two expansions, each almost as big as the original game (in terms of areas to explore). but the base price to get in will go up for those that haven't bought it yet". Not sure why you couldn't re-play them for no reward.Īlso has a neat "pay once and all future content is free. There were a couple that were pretty fun. One thing that's slightly annoying: you can't replay an area once you've defeated it. Pick a few classes you like to play and you should be good. But the game is extremely easy get into so it's not a big deal. And if you get killed, you can't use the same class again as you're forced to take a different "guild member" until another of that class is "hired" back into your guild (happens after one dungeon run). There will be times when facing a much higher level monster will be unavoidable and lead to near certain death. There is a high level of RNG though in how the dungeon gets made and then what monsters you face and when. You'll have tough choices around which treasure to take or switch out. Equipment goes in one of four areas: head, body, main weapon, off-hand. Unlockable character classes give your base deck of cards while equipment/treasure gives more cards and stat upgrades (or penalties). You have to entice them to go certain ways by placing treasure on the map of the dungeon, which you also have limited control over.Ĭombat is really the fun deck-building part. Really good deck-builder with an interesting twist: you aren't in complete control of where your little dude on the screen goes.
